My Own Freedom Arms .454
This is a Freedom Arms Model 83 done up in English scroll. I told Wayne Baker, FA’s founder that I described his revolvers as a cross between a Swiss watch and a Sherman tank. He liked that! In an earlier post, I showed pictures of the one I did for my Kansas friend, complete with Dall sheep horn/Micarta grips. Would love a set of those grips on this one, but I don’t have the time for that anymore. I swore I’d never do another one in English scroll again, but things change. I developed a couple of different techniques to deal with hard steels and FAs are just a job now, not a nightmare. This scroll originated with a Webley Farquharson action I engraved about 15 years ago. The customer sent me clear photos of an original engraved rifle to copy. I have made some minor changes in the scroll since then to what you see here. The original revolver was 7 1/2”, and I shortened it. I machined that banded front sight from a big piece of round 416 stainless steel. Seemed to take forever. The knife is a Buck Ranger that I had laying around. I did a little different pattern from my usual and I like it
