Little Two-Tone Ruger
This little two-tone Ruger is one of my working go to guns for mowing trips out to our cabin. Every year I mow the area around it and the perimeter. The previous property owner ran a small Cat around the boundary, and it all needs mowing. Otherwise, in a few years birch trees will simply take over. It’s a New Model Super Blackhawk .44 Mag. with a stainless Qualite birdshead grip frame added. I didn’t have time to make new grips when I built it, so those are just factory ones filed down to fit. I machined a 3” piece of stainless Douglas barrel down to .800 and threaded it. To keep things simple and add weight up front I didn’t taper it. Rear sight is a steel aftermarket that Brownell’s sold many years ago. Front sight is factory. I drill and counterbore right behind the blade for an 8-40 screw. Makes positioning for soldering or one of the high tech epoxies easy. I often just stick it inside my belt, hanging it on the loading gate swung out. That’s a trick I learned from reading Skeeter Skelton. Just enough engraving to make it interesting. For some reason the little band of engraving around the barrel often pleases folks. The Leatherman is one I picked up at a gun show for $5. It was in a big box of confiscated knives a guy bought from TSA. Between the two I have a lot of bases covered.
