Deluxe Ruger MKII
I’m fairly certain this is the finest Ruger MK2 in existence. Let’s see what its construction entailed. I built a new quarter rib with a nose that matches the ones on Ruger’s #1 rifles and incorporated the adjustable sight into the back end. The new front sight and base matches the quarter rib shape. This quarter rib is what Ruger should have made, because they investment cast the #1 ribs. It would be simple for them to manufacture.
I wanted to use the Ruger stainless scope rings, because at the time they were the only ones available that were real stainless steel. Everyone else’s were nickel plated (most still are). It has a new trigger, and I bought a set of figured black walnut target grips from Herrett’s. I extended the safety and checkered it to clear the larger grip contour. I also heated and straightened the slide release for the same reason. Millett REDOT SP1 is small enough it doesn’t make the gun too bulky. The optical sight is easy to pick up and quite accurate enough at small game ranges. My idea was to build something very much like the old Browning Medalist .22 autos. I came close enough for me! Of course, I had to add some engraving to finish it off. It’s a favorite pistol.
